Apologies from being AWOL

 Hello F-List!

First, apologies for not being around.  I’m not lurking – I really haven’t been around LJ.  I’ve been genuiniely busy with RL (planning for two trips this summer) but when I have time to think about BSG – well, I’m not emotionally ready to mourn with everyone out there just yet.  So pardon my distance for just a bit longer.

A pithy thought on the Finale... )

Tonight though I really miss the anticipation for a new episode of BSG.  *Sighs* I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I may miss BSG-hiatus-hell.  I probably will re-start reading LJ and y’all's thoughts.  Be assured I will participate (and not just lurk) – just pardon me if I seem a little bit too late to the conversation yet again!

On second note, I will be on a family vacation from this coming Monday for about 2 weeks.  I’m not sure what the internet situation will like be like so I might even be AWOL yet again.

I really DO want to stay connected to the fandom (LUV U ALL!!!!!), but I just needed this mini-break.   I plan to start looking at my F-list starting March 21!  Yikes that’s many many pages, so if any of you have a particular post you think I should read RFN, please do mention it!  I might even clean up my reaction draft and post it if I get some time (or decide to procrastinate from packing).

OY! My brain may be a little broke. I’m trying to not to read anyone else reactions before I post mine own, because if I read others’ perspectives I might censor myself. But this season is my last chance to post MY reactions, so here goes:

Warning, here be spoilers for BSG 411/413 )
Phew, Now I’m free to read what y’all are thinking.

(Please, I’d like remain spoiler-free, but speculation is more than welcome.)

No Spoilers Please!

Just in case people in my f-list did not know this already, just a Rreminder:

THIS
IS A
Spoiler Free
Zone

Capice? Comprende? Sigue? OK!

I love to speculate, and think about it, this moment is the last time we can speculate and imagine and pray for anything. After the last 10 episodes air, that's it.

No more daydreaming, no more 'OMG did they just do that'? Let's not spoil this magic time, ok?

I've usually been spoiler-lite (watching SciFi promos) but after Season 4.0, I no longer even watch those.

That being said, for all those who do not share my credo, I appreciate all those LJ cuts you guys will use as well as any heads-up warnings to stay away from certain sites. Thanks in advance!

But for those who do post spoilers willy-nilly, just an advance-peek in the curse I am currently brewing:
May the wrath of the Lords of Kobol follow you: Dogs will pee on you, cats shall scratch you, and rats will invade your home. May angry Head!Six haunt you, Adama glare at you, Roslin airlock you, Starbuck smack you, and Tigh serve you tea.

Sorry I haven't really been present in LJ lately, and I think I'll absent a little while longer.

I wanted to post about my experience at Comic-Con San Diego, but I'm getting the flu so it might take me awhile. Yes I did go to the BSG Panel (of course) and I hope to write up my impressions and report what happened there.   Right now I've re-learning how to upload and post pictures.

I  put the the rest of my photos (that weren't crap) in  this webpage:

Canon Question for fanfic research

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the place to post this (and if not, please delete this), but can anyone tell me where in the Series aired it was said that Zak was the younger brother? I've always assumed that was the case, but watching AoC and the Mini it never said so…

BSG fanfic recs: mythological tangents

  • Dec. 31st, 2007 at 2:13 AM

I admit it!  I originally was intrigued by BSG by all the mythological references peppering its universe.  (Well, that and the KLG1 episode, which was the first episode I saw - I went wtf? what's going on? I better catch SciFi's new BSG marathon tomorrow. -and then I was hooked)  It's not hard to parallel Apollo with Apollo (the civilized young man) and Artemis with Starbuck (the wild and untamed warrior).  But I still get minor squees when the other less-known aspects of the Twin Deities get featured in our pilots! : Apollo is a god of healing and of plagues so Lee would like to send a biological weapon to the Cylons;  Artemis is the goddess of all young things so Kara of course would be in charge of nuggets and Kasey!

I have come to love BSG for more that the occasional mythological crumb.  Who wouldn't enjoy its great writing (bar the the Woman King) great acting, great soundtrack, and great direction and visuals?  But I was reminded of my original hook to BSG when daybreak777 rec'd an Artemis PG-13 fanfic from Yuletide.  A stroll back to fanfic memory and voila, ....

I bring you BSG myth!fic rec, aka BSG-fanfic-that-somehow-reference-Greek-mythology:

1.  Who Dares Wins by SelDear (rated T, 2 Sept 05).  Its a Zarek fic, y'know, Tom who likes to call Adama Zeus,  but this time he's calling Lee and Kara, well, Apollo and Artemis.  Bastille Day.  Zarek, Kara/Lee.
2.  Like Daphne by ancarett (rated R, posted 14 May 05).  Who's Like Daphne, who else likes to flee from Apollo?  hmmm.   Pre-mini.  Kara/Lee.
3.   Actaeon Hounded by voluse (rated PG-13, 2 May 05)  Actaeon was a hunter who mistakenly walked on a naked Artemis bathing.  As a punishment, she turned him to a stag, and his own dogs later tore him apart - ouch!  Spoilers for Season 1.  Gaius/Six, Kara/Lee.
4.  Things Remembered by lymiry (M, 7 Dec 05).  Long AU novella where the actual Twin Gods get involved in the conflict between the Fleet vs the Cylons (Niobe's children) but at great personal cost to Starbuck and Apollo.   Includes a lovely detailed pre-mini history between Kara and Lee. Pilots! are actually about to get together, but then Gods and politics make it impossible for them to be physically together (somewhat like the Sun and the Moon).  AU after Home.
5.  A Coin for Charon by ancarett (PG, 31 Mar 06)  Anyone remember watching Clash of the Titans?  Well, Charon's that skeleton who ferries the dead across the Styx to Hades.  Lee-centric upto Resurrection Ship 2.

Well, those are the ones I remember liking alot.  I know there's more.  I seem to remember one about Orion (=Zak or Adama) and one of Cassandra (=Roslin) and another of Ishay (as the god Apollo's follower) and others revolving pagan festivals.  If anyone else knows of any other fanfic with overt greek myth references (even if they aren't K/L) please point the way! How about some myth!fic after 2005? Especially now with all those Kara-Prophecies coming out of every closet?

So, I woke up today without needing my coffee fix... because the first thing I remembered was that today i get to watch RAZOR ! I've been incredibly disciplined (for me anyway) about spoilers (except for that TV Guide shot of Kendra (spoilery adjective here) while Starbuck all being bad-ass marine-y) even unrevealing reviews.

I expect some loud SQUEE-ing tonight (apologies to neighbors) and I will be able to (finally) read all those Razor-posts!

WTF NBC????

  • Sep. 1st, 2007 at 11:46 AM

I just heard the news that NBC and iTunes are currently not planning to offer new NBC shows after September because NBC wants to up the episode downloand price from $1.99 to $4.99. Here's the story from AP:

http://my.earthlink.net/article/ent?guid=20070831/46d79240_3ca6_1552620070831-11828380

Are you frakkin' kidding???

While for sure iTunes will pull the plug on new NBC series, it might also effect the new episodes of the returning series, including my favorites: Battlestar Galactica (AP, take note: that's one "L" in Galatica), 30 Rock, and Project Runway.

Living outside the USA, I consider myself very lucky to have friends who travel to the States and back and buy me iTunes prepaid cards. I've got $100 in cards to play with for the next season!

But what's the point if my drug of choice isn't going to be available over the counter? Living in a country notorious for pirated DVDs, NBC is damn lucky to have me willing to pay for this stuff. Regardless of geographic constraits, it is also all too easy to go down "underground" to load up on BSG episodes (or almost any network show) for free.

Now, it seems NBC is practically daring me to go illegal. I really don't want to. RDM, SciFi, etc deserves my $2 imho.

Who's the loser now, NBC??????
