Go Horned Frogs!!!

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 12:57 PM
On my way out the door, but I have to give a quick shout-out to the university that's near and dear to my family (though I decamped for Trinity U.) So, on the occasion of the big game against Utah that just might take that little school in Fort Worth all the way to the BCS:

Riff Ram, Bah Zoo
Lickety Lickety, Zoo Zoo
Who Wah, Wah Who
Give 'em hell, TCU!

(And this is probably the only time you will ever see me post about college football!)
Title: "Solar Flare" Chapter Eight/?
Author: stardust_20
Date: 14/11/09
Warnings/spoilers: Rated M (NC17), story goes AU from 1x09 "Eve Ate The Apple", though it will mirror the remainder of the series. Spoilers for the entire series. Some swearing ...
Characters/pairings: Full cast of characters, canon pairings, heavier on Zoe/Donner.
Word count: 2400+
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters or the show and am making no money writing about it. I write for fun because I love doing it!
A/N: I know some of what I've written is probably totally impossible but it is science fiction (heavy on the fiction) and I'm not intending to be completely accurate with my science. Please suspend any disbelief and just enjoy the story for what it is. :)

Really sweet and perfectly done. My commentary on recs always makes stuff seem lame. This isn't lame. It's awesome. Seriously.

→ The OTW (Organization for Transformative Works) has started open beta at Archive of our Own and is offering invites for those who request one. For those who don't know, it's a fic archival site and I have my fic archived there if you want to take a look and see what it's like before signing up.

→ Don't forget to hit up my holiday music sharing post and download some music and share anything you'd like. You can share that post with your flists as well. The more the merrier!

Creditors try to repossess Galactica

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 6:32 PM
Copy and paste from SciFiWire ...

------------
Collection agencies can be annoying here on Earth, but it's even worse in deep space.

We're not sure whether the crew of the Battlestar Galactica got a bit behind, or if it was a computer error, but whatever the reason, the Caprica Collection Agency starts badgering for those back payments in this fan video. Good thing Commander Adama and President Roslin know just how to handle the situation!

In my ongoing quest to find *something* to write about each day, I thought I'd do one of those posts with bits of fics I've abandoned for one reason or another.

An FTL jump gone wrong -- set during early S3. )

The Kara-POV version of 'Decline and Fall' that I was never able to finish. )

Kara, post-Daybreak, getting all introspective 'n stuff. )

Kara meets Matt Devlin. )

And for the heck of it, here is some relatively platonic RPF! )

Frakking Friday: Now with Extra Angst!

  • Nov. 13th, 2009 at 10:03 PM
This week, there's another Ask Katee video with some BSG questions about the fight with Jamie in UB, whether anyone told her what Kara was, etc. The questions weren't very interesting this time around, we've heard them all before. Also there's this more interesting vid interview with Katee where she talks about a bunch of things including a documentary she and Tricia want to make about two motorcycle riding sisters.

Then i09 has a little article about how you can buy yourself a cylon shooting target like they used in the firing range on Galactica. It's a $9.95 poster (so you wouldn't really want to use it for target practice!) and I'm not sure if they'll just have the centurion or the humanoid cylons too but it's kinda cool.

So yesterday I was tooling around and rereading fic and doing all that sorta stuff and on someone's journal I saw a line about how Helo would totally be the captain of the Quidditch team for the Hufflepuff House at Hogwarts. So rayruz and I started spitballing about what houses the Sorting Hat would dump our collective BSG family members into and here's what we came up with:

Hufflepuff: Helo, Cally, Sam, Zak, Billy
Gryffindor: Lee, Kat, Hot Dog (I originally had him in Hufflepuff, but let's face it, he is so the Neville of this story. Hee), Kara (though she would be SHOCKED that she didn't end up in Slytherin)
Ravenclaw: Gaeta, Dee, Athena, Simon

Slytherin: Tory, Racetrack, Crashdown, Baltar, Leoben (Though Ray argued he should be in Ravenclaw--my sorting hat would totally dump his stalker ass in Slytherin), Cavil, D'Anna

Doral was deemed "a squib. Defective."

We weren't sure what to do with Chief. :/ And for some reason we didn't do Adama (Hufflepuff?), Roslin (Gryffindor?), Tigh (Slytherin?), Ellen (Slytherin?), Romo (Slytherin?), etc.

What do y'all think? Where would you put them?

Kate Vernon joined the cast of Heroes. I wonder what super power she'll have, assuming she has one.

This photo of Michael Hogan from another Lifetime Movie Network classic! is too priceless not to link to. I hope he had a better fate than Porn Boy!

And this is pretty adorable: Battlestar Galactica Gets Repossessed.

Finally, PILOTS!

Top Pilots Moments #11-15 )
Oh Pilots. I love you in all your frakked up glory!!!
For those of you in Canada, Fulvio Cecere (who played Lt. Alastair Thorne in the Pegasus arc) will be in tonight's episode of Flashpoint (3x08: The Good Citizen). Fu plays Alphonse, the bar owner.

Fu with Enrico Colantoni (Sgt. Gregory Parker) on the set of Flashpoint.

New Caprica Poster

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 8:35 AM
Copy and paste from Maureen Ryan's column 'The Watcher' in the Chicago Tribune.

------------
"Caprica" arrives on Syfy Jan. 22, and in anticipation of that premiere, the network has released this poster for the show exclusively to the Watcher site. The image at right, which features the "Caprica" character Zoe Graystone (Alessandra Torresani), is the key art for the new series.

"There's something really interesting about the idea of Zoe and the Eve metaphor," said Mark Stern, executive vice president of original content for Syfy and co-head of Universal Cable Productions, in an interview on Thursday.

He noted there were many internal discussions at Syfy about the signature image for the new series, which stars Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Polly Walker and Paula Malcolmson. But Stern and other executives realized all the debate was a good thing. "That's the point of the show," he said. "Like 'Battlestar,' the show doesn't take one particular stand -- it starts a discussion. That's true of 'Caprica' too. What we love about this image is that it invites many different points of view or opinions and they're all valid."
------------

and

------------
The series will premiere with a two-hour pilot that is already available as a standalone DVD. Eight additional hours of "Caprica" will air through March. Then the show will take a break and the remaining nine hours of "Caprica's" first season will air some time in the second half of 2010.

If you've done the math in the previous paragraph, you've realized that "Caprica's" episode order has been reduced by one hour. Syfy had originally commissioned a total of 20 hours for Season 1, but the show, which is currently in production on the last third of the season in Vancouver, will now consist of 19 hours.

Friday Favorite

  • Nov. 13th, 2009 at 1:49 PM
Now that BSG is over and our fridays are cold and lonely, I'm doing an ongoing "Friday Favorite" thread. Each week I choose one character (or episode or whatever else) and kick off the conversation from there. This way we can keep the BSG love alive and well, and share some of our best memories of the series!

This is the 30th Friday Favorite (wow, 30+ weeks since the show ended...) and it dawned on me that I've never done a nice, simple "who is your favorite character?" So here it is: Tell us who your favorite BSG character is, or list your top 3 favorites. You can give reasons, or not... Go into as much or as little detail as ya like.

These Friday Favorites will span everything from the mini-series to the series finale, so avoid this thread if you're not caught up.

P.S. If you missed last week's Friday Favorite.. err, Least Favorite, "Least Favorite Episode," here's a link.

2 reasons to love Jaime King

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 9:31 PM
1) She gets to hang with Kandyse McClure
and
2) She thinks BSG is the best show ever.

CLICK!
BSG came in at #12 - not bad considering the competition. Of course, I would have placed it much higher, but that's just me. ;) (Overall I'd argue with a few of their placements and there are a few glaring omissions - *cough*Spaced*cough* - but most of my favorites are there somewhere so I can't complain too much.)

Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

  1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
  2. If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
  3. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
  4. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
  5. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
  6. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

  1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
  2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
  3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
  4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
  5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

LiveJournal Cares

We’re pleased to introduce you to [info]lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.
